Dell Inspiron 2500 has Blank Screen After XP SP2 Installed
06/02/2006 posted by Kevin S
Recently I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 2500 with XP Service Pack 2 and immediately after rebooting there was no output on the LCD, the system was up and running since it was playing the XP login music.

After a quick search on the Dell website, I discovered that this is known fault when upgrading Inspiron 2500 with the Intel 815EM Embedded Graphics card.

To fix this problem follow the following procedure. Restart the system and boot into Safe Mode by pressing the <F8> key at the Dell splash screen. Choose Enable VGA Mode and press the Enter key.
  • Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears.
  • Double-click the Appearance and Themes icon.
  • Double-click the Displayicon. The Display Properties window appears.
  • Click the Settings tab.
  • Click the Advanced button.
  • Click the Monitor tab.
  • Locate the Refresh Frequency field.
  • Click the check to remove it from Hide modes that this monitor cannot display.
  • Click the Apply button.
  • Click the OK button.
  • Restart the system into normal mode.
  • The Full description can be found here ( assuming dell don't move it )
